Experimental Wood Firing - Russian Doll Saggar

A couple of years ago I spent some time experimenting with different alternative kilns to see what effects I could gain but also as a way to celebrate ceramic firings as an art form in itself. This little playful animation shows one of them I called the Russian Doll kiln.

Just like the matryoshka doll you find in Russia these pieces sit over each other becoming a saggar for the smaller piece. A saggar helps create a localised environment which in turn can create nice reduction effects. The very largest piece acts as part of the kiln by becoming the chimney.

I am not entirely sure of its success but fun to do none the less.
